Background activity
Find sustained background activity with deterministic evidence.
A process at 3% CPU is not a problem. A process holding 62% CPU for eighteen minutes might be. RamBeacon looks for sustained patterns rather than momentary spikes, and explains the threshold that produced each finding.
Findings are advisory. Reviewing one does not authorize a process change, and the app does not automatically terminate background activity.
Deterministic rules first
Sustained CPU, persistent disk activity and repeated restart findings are computed locally from bounded telemetry. Severity and the event timeline are based on the rules, not on a model's opinion.
Optional AI explanations can add plain-language context for an existing finding. They cannot create a new finding, upgrade a severity, or execute an action.
- Sustained-CPU findings with severity and thresholds.
- Persistent-disk and repeated-restart detection.
- Event timeline and optional AI explanation.
- Advisory only — no automatic process changes.
Useful for developer tooling
Language servers, Gradle daemons, Metro bundlers, Docker helpers and emulator processes can remain busy long after an editor loses focus. The investigator helps you identify the long-running activity and then inspect the process family before deciding what to do.
Where the desktop app cannot see a reliable signal, it says so. It does not infer a cause from a process name alone.
