Install. Activate. Connect Tab Scout.

A practical guide to running RamBeacon on Windows, buying and activating a license, and connecting the Tab Scout browser companion. No developer tools or source code are required.
Windows 10 / 11 x64Desktop 0.1.0License required

Install RamBeacon

RamBeacon is installed from the official Windows installer. You do not need Node.js, Rust, Visual Studio, or the source code. Build-from-source instructions are not part of the customer installation.

01

Download the installer

Open the download page and save the Windows x64 installer. The page also publishes its size and SHA-256 checksum.

02

Verify the checksum

Compare the SHA-256 shown on the download page with the file you downloaded. If it does not match, delete it and download again.

03

Run the installer

The installer is per-user and does not require administrator elevation. The current build is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn.

04

Launch and activate

Open RamBeacon. The app is intentionally locked until a valid license key is activated.

Only run the installer from the official RamBeacon website and verify the checksum first. Do not disable SmartScreen globally.

Windows 10 or Windows 11, x64

No separate database server
Runs as a standard user; no auto-elevation

Buy and activate a license

Choose the Annual or Lifetime license on the pricing page. Checkout is handled by Razorpay. After successful payment, the license key is sent to the purchase email and is available in your RamBeacon account.

01

Enter the key

Launch RamBeacon. The activation screen is the only screen available before a license is present.

02

Add a device label

Use a name you recognize later, such as “Work laptop” or “Development PC”. This label appears in your account.

03

Activate and continue

RamBeacon sends the key to the licensing server, verifies the signed lease in Rust, and stores it in Windows Credential Manager. All features unlock.

Daily verification, without constant API calls

After activation, the app keeps a signed seven-day lease. It checks the licensing server about once a day while the lease approaches its renewal window, and retries conservative backoff if you are offline. Normal use sends roughly one lightweight validation request per day, not one per launch.

Device limit

The default is two active devices. Deactivate a device from Settings before moving the license to another PC.

Lost key or device access

Sign in with the purchase email in your account to view orders, deactivate an old device, or email the license key to the verified address.

First run

After activation, a short setup wizard asks about sampling, retention, notifications and optional AI. You can change every choice later in Settings. Nothing is cleaned or closed automatically.

Dashboard

A live resource picture with CPU, memory, disk and best-effort GPU data, plus the processes using the most memory.

Processes & relationships

Search, group and inspect process families. Parent-child evidence and protection classes explain what is safe to review.

Memory Leaks

Compare bounded 5–60 minute windows. Sustained growth is presented as a signal with caveats, not a confirmed leak.

Activity & Health Timeline

See sustained background activity and a local chronology of process changes, alerts and approved cleanup results.

Dev Servers

Find listening development servers, project folders, stack badges and port conflicts. Stop them only through an approval preview.

Developer Cleanup

Scan folders you select, review known dependency and build artifacts, then move approved targets to the Recycle Bin.

Watchlist, reports & startup

Track local thresholds, export performance reports, and review or reversibly toggle Windows startup entries.

Settings

Sampling, retention, theme, notifications, AI preferences, license status and device deactivation live here.

Install the Tab Scout extension

Tab Scout is a companion extension for Chrome and Edge. It lets RamBeacon show tab activity and close tabs you explicitly select. The extension is bundled with RamBeacon; there is nothing else to download and no source code to build.

Tab Scout reports tab titles, domains, and activity state over a local loopback connection. It does not read page content, passwords, form data, or full URLs with query strings. Closing a tab never closes the browser profile.
01

Open Browser Tabs in RamBeacon

Choose Browser Tabs from the sidebar. This is the local bridge that receives tab activity from the extension.

02

Choose your browser

Click Install in Chrome or Install in Edge. RamBeacon stages the TabScout extension folder and opens your browser's extensions page.

03

Load the extension

Turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the TabScout folder that RamBeacon opened. Select the folder itself, not its parent.

04

Open and pin Tab Scout

The extension is now installed. Pin Tab Scout to the toolbar so it is easy to open. Chrome or Edge may show a developer-mode notice; that is expected for the bundled build.

05

Pair with the pairing code

In RamBeacon, copy the pairing code shown under Browser Tabs. Open Tab Scout, click Connect, paste the code, and confirm.

06

Confirm the connection

Browser Tabs should show the browser under Paired browsers and begin syncing. If the code expired, click New code and pair again.

Install path

RamBeacon stages a local TabScout folder and opens it for you. In Chrome/Edge enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select that folder.

Pairing

The pairing code is shown in Browser Tabs. Paste it into Tab Scout and click Connect. The code is reusable for up to eight browsers; use New code if it expires.

If Tab Scout does not connect

  • Confirm RamBeacon is running and the Browser Tabs page is open.
  • Refresh the pairing code, paste the current code, and click Connect again.
  • Open the extensions page, reload Tab Scout, then reopen its popup.
  • Check that the extension is enabled and that you selected the TabScout folder.
  • If you previously removed the extension, load the staged folder again.

Everyday use

Start on the Dashboard when the machine feels slow. Move into Processes when you need identity and parent-child evidence. Use Memory Leaks and Activity for time-based investigation, then review a cleanup preview only if action is appropriate.

Observe

Read CPU, memory, disk and GPU signals locally. Values update at the sampling interval you choose.

Investigate

Compare history, classify processes, and read the evidence behind a recommendation.

Decide

A recommendation never acts. Review targets and approve a supported action yourself.

Dev Servers

Dev Servers inventories listening ports for Next.js/Node, Vite, Metro/React Native, Dart/Flutter, Gradle/JVM, adb and Android emulators. It groups by project-folder evidence, infers stack badges, detects duplicate or conflicting ports, and offers stack-aware restart guidance.

Stopping a server uses the same approval-bound path as every other action. A visible-window process can be closed gracefully; a windowless process requires a separate force-stop confirmation. RamBeacon does not inspect container internals or run arbitrary shell commands.

Cleanup safety

Nothing cleans or closes automatically.

RamBeacon prepares an approval preview. Supported actions require your explicit confirmation, and Developer Cleanup only moves approved targets to the Windows Recycle Bin. Force termination has a separate second confirmation.

  • Protected services, security software and critical Windows components are excluded.
  • Approval is bound to the exact process identity: PID, creation time and executable path.
  • Before/after memory measurements are observations, not guarantees of recovered RAM.
  • Cleanup history records what was approved, attempted and completed.

Privacy

Monitoring data — process names, paths, resource history, watchlist rules, cleanup history and AI cache — stays in the desktop app's local SQLite database. It is not sent to the website backend.

The licensing server receives the checkout email, product/currency, Razorpay references, a license-scoped hash of a client-generated device identifier, a device label, the app version and activation/validation timestamps. It does not receive your process list, files, paths or page content.

AI assistance is optional. When enabled, the OpenRouter key is stored in Windows Credential Manager and only minimized candidate context is sent. The extension's tab data stays on your machine over a loopback bridge.

Account and devices

RamBeacon uses passwordless sign-in. Enter the email used at checkout and open the single-use link from your inbox. There is no RamBeacon password to remember or leak.

View orders and payment status.
See license validity, key hint and device count.
Deactivate a device you no longer use.
Email the license key to the verified account address.

Troubleshooting

Activation says the device limit is reached

Sign in to your account with the purchase email and deactivate an unused device. An old machine does not need to be online for this to work.

The license key was lost

Use Recover purchase on the account page. We email a single-use sign-in link, then you can use “Email my license key” from the license detail page. A key is never revealed from an order ID alone.

SmartScreen warns about the installer

The current build is unsigned. Verify the published SHA-256, then use “More info” and “Run anyway” only if the checksum matches. Do not disable security controls globally.

The app does not start

Confirm Windows 10/11 x64 and that Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed. Reinstall from the official download page if the application files are damaged.

The app says the lease is expired

Reconnect to the internet and validate from the activation screen or Settings. Offline use is allowed only inside the signed grace period.

Tab Scout is installed but not paired

Copy a fresh pairing code from Browser Tabs, paste it into Tab Scout, and click Connect. Reload the extension if it still shows disconnected.

Checkout is unavailable

The pricing page states the reason. INR requires Razorpay configuration; USD requires international approval. The site never silently substitutes one currency for another.

For activation support, use the contact form. Never send your full license key, card data, or a diagnostics bundle containing secrets.
